This policy explains what DataRadars collects, why, and what we do with it. It covers two very different groups of people: sellers who create an account and install our browser extension, and buyers who appear in a seller's live show without ever having signed up with us. We treat those groups differently, and this policy says how.
The short version. When a seller turns on our extension, it reads their own live show page and writes down what happened: items, prices, bids, chat messages, and the usernames attached to them. That original record stays in our private storage and is never shown to anyone else. What we show other sellers is only totals and averages built from many shows at once, and we hold back any number small enough to point at one person. No seller can see another seller's records, another seller's name, or any buyer's username through this product.
Who we are
DataRadars provides market statistics for people who sell on live shopping platforms. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Whatnot, TikTok Shop, eBay, or any other platform.
Information about sellers
When you create an account we collect:
- Your email address and name. Used to sign you in and to contact you about your account.
- Your password, stored only as a bcrypt hash. We cannot read it, and we cannot recover it for you. If you sign in with Google we never receive a password at all.
- Your shop name and category, which you give us during setup so your dashboard opens on the market you actually sell in.
- The platforms you sell on and your handles there, if you choose to tell us. This is optional.
- Your shop handle, detected automatically by the extension when you go live. We use it to confirm you are recording your own show and not someone else's.
- Basic usage signals, such as when the extension was installed and when it last captured a show, so we can tell whether your setup is working.
Information captured from live shows
Our browser extension records only shows belonging to the shop you have registered, and only after you explicitly enable it. It does not run until you turn it on, and disabling it stops capture immediately. From your live show page it records:
- items offered, winning bids and prices, and bid activity during a lot
- public chat messages and the usernames attached to them
- viewer counts and giveaway entry counts
The extension reads what is already displayed on your screen on a page you are signed in to. It does not log in on your behalf, does not act on your account, does not place or change bids, and does not access pages other than your own live shows.
About buyers who appear in a show
Buyers in a live show did not sign up with DataRadars, so we want to be direct about how their information is handled. Their usernames and bidding activity are publicly visible to everyone watching that show. When a seller records their own show, that public activity is captured along with it.
We limit what happens to it:
- It is never published. Buyer usernames are never shown to other sellers, never displayed on our website, and never included in any statistic we release.
- It is never sold. We do not sell, rent, or license personal information to anyone.
- It is only used for counting. Buyer records exist so we can work out how many different people bid on a type of product and what prices those products reach. We keep the username only so the same person is not counted twice.
- We collect no contact details. We do not collect buyers' email addresses, phone numbers, payment details, or addresses. We could not contact a buyer if we wanted to.
If you appeared in a recorded show and want your information removed, email us at the address below with the username in question and we will delete the records associated with it.
How we strip the names out
The numbers sellers see are built by adding up many recorded shows and throwing the names away. This is not a setting someone has to remember to switch on. The database that runs our website has nowhere to put a buyer username or a seller name, so those never reach it in the first place. Even if we made a mistake in our website code, there is no name there for it to leak.
We also hold back any number that comes from too few people. This matters because a figure built from a handful of people can point straight at them even when no name is attached: if only one shop sells a thing, “the average price of that thing” is simply that shop's prices. So we only publish a number once it combines at least:
- 5 different shops and 25 different buyers, for category statistics
- 3 different shops and 10 different buyers, for product statistics
- 10 different buyers, for time-of-day statistics
Anything below those thresholds is withheld rather than shown. This is also why sellers see a coverage label next to categories: it tells them how much evidence sits behind a number.
Where all this is kept
Your account details and the recordings of your shows are kept in private storage that is not reachable from the public internet and is never served through our website. Only the people who run the service can open it. Everything travels between your computer and ours over an encrypted connection, which means it is scrambled on the way so it cannot be read by anyone who intercepts it.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not hand it to advertisers.
The only outside companies that touch it are the ones that keep the service running: the company that hosts our website and storage, and the company that sends account emails like password resets. They are allowed to use it only to do that job for us, and for nothing of their own.
We may also have to hand over information if the law requires it, such as a court order, or where it is needed to protect someone's safety.
How long we keep things
We keep your account details for as long as your account is open. We keep the show recordings so the numbers can stay up to date. The published numbers are totals across many shops, so they are not tied to any one person.
When you delete your account we remove your account details and stop recording your shows. Numbers we already published stay, because they are combined totals that cannot be traced back to you or your shop.
Your choices
- Turn capture off at any time from the extension. It stops immediately.
- Uninstall the extension to end all capture permanently.
- Ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing us.
- Delete your account, which removes your account information from our systems.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your personal information, including rights of access, correction, deletion, and objection. Contact us and we will honor them.
Cookies
We use cookies only to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not run third-party tracking or advertising networks on this site.
Children
DataRadars is intended for people running a business selling online and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we handle your information we will tell account holders by email.
